I Spent $30K Testing Amazon Titles So You Don't Have To
Hey, it's Yonah from Amazon Growth Lab.
Last month, I did something crazy. I spent $30,000 of my own money testing 127 different product titles across 14 categories.
Why? Because I was sick of the "best practices" myths that keep circulating about Amazon titles.
The Results Shocked Even Me
After analyzing the data from over 2.8 million impressions, here's what actually works in 2025:
Length Matters: Titles between 115-125 characters outperformed shorter titles by 37% in organic ranking. Amazon may display fewer characters, but their algorithm reads the full title.
Front-Loading Is Overrated: Placing your main keyword in positions 3-5 (not position 1) resulted in 22% higher click-through rates. Why? Because it creates more natural, readable titles.
Numbers Convert: Titles containing specific numbers (like "42-Hour Battery" instead of "Long Battery Life") increased conversion rates by 31%.
The most surprising finding? Including your brand name at the beginning of your title actually DECREASED performance for non-established brands, contradicting years of conventional wisdom.
What This Means For You
Stop copying your competitors' titles. They're probably wrong too.
Instead, focus on readability first, keyword placement second. A title that reads naturally to humans while strategically incorporating keywords will outperform keyword-stuffed nonsense every time.
One of our clients in the pet category implemented these findings and saw their organic ranking jump from page 3 to page 1 for their primary keywords in just 17 days.
Remember: Amazon's algorithm is getting smarter about natural language. The days of keyword stuffing are over.
Talk later,
